Veysel Avsar's Biography

Dr. Veysel Avsar has been appointed as Professor of Economics at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He earned a BS in Economics from Istanbul University in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Economics from Florida International University in 2011, receiving the prestigious "Outstanding Achievement" and "Outstanding Dissertation in Economics" awards.
Dr. Avsar served as a Teaching Assistant from 2006 to 2008 and as a lecturer from 2008 to 2011 at Florida International University. He was also a visiting scholar at Deakin University in Australia in 2008 and at the University of California San Diego in 2010. From 2011 to 2016, he worked as an Assistant & Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Antalya International University, where he also served as the Department Chair. In 2016-2017, he held a Visiting Professor position at Montana State University. Dr. Avsar joined Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as Associate Professor of Economics in 2017 and was promoted to full Professor in 2021. He was honored with the "Professor of the Year" Award from the College of Business in 2019 and 2022.
Dr. Avsar's research has been published in esteemed international journals such as World Bank Economic Review, Southern Economic Journal, Economics & Politics, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, Economic Modelling, Applied Economics, Applied Economics Letters, and Kyklos. He also serves as a referee for several economics journals and has presented his work at numerous conferences and seminars worldwide. In 2010, he was the recipient of the "Best Paper Award" at the 9th Globalization and Economic Policy Conference, held at the University of Nottingham.
Dr. Avsar's primary research interests are in International Trade, Political Economy, and Applied Econometrics.
