Veysel Avsar is a Turkish Economist who is appointed as Associate Professor of Economics at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi (TAMUCC). He graduated from Istanbul University in 2006 with a BS in Economics and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Florida International University (FIU) in 2011 with "Outstanding Achievement" and "Outstanding Dissertation in Economics" awards. His Ph.D. dissertation was sponsored by FIU's "Doctoral Evidence Acquisition Fellowship" and "Dissertation Year Fellowship". He is the first ever graduate student whose dissertation was sponsored by both fellowships in the history of  FIU Economics graduate program. 

Dr. Avsar worked as a Teaching Assistant from 2006 to 2008, and as a lecturer from 2008 to 2011 at FIU. He was a visiting scholar in Deakin University of Australia in 2008 and in University of California San Diego in 2010.
Between 2011 and 2016, Dr. Avsar worked as Assistant & Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Antalya International University where he also served as the Department Chair. He held a Visiting Professor position at Montana State University for 2016-2017 academic year.  Dr. Avsar has taught many undergraduate/graduate classes and had students from around 100 countries in his career. He received the "Professor of the Year" award in 2019 from TAMUCC College of Business. 

Dr. Avsar’s papers have appeared in well-known economics journals such as World Bank Economic Review, Applied Economics, Economics & Politics, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Singapore Economic Review, Applied Economics Letters, Economic Modelling and Kyklos. He has presented his work in several conferences and seminars all over the world. In 2010, he was the recipient of the “Best Paper Award" at the 9th Globalization and Economic Policy Conference, held in the University of Nottingham. His research activities on the impact of temporary trade barriers on protected firms was supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) National Young Researchers Career Development Program. Dr Avsar also serves as a referee in several SSCI journals, grant applications and Central Bank of Turkey’s regular publications. 

His main research focuses on International Trade, Political Economy and Applied Econometrics.
