Veysel Avsar's Biography

Dr. Veysel Avsar is a Turkish Economist who is appointed as Professor of Economics at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He graduated from Istanbul University in 2006 with a BS in Economics and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Florida International University in 2011 with "Outstanding Achievement" and "Outstanding Dissertation in Economics" awards.
Dr. Avsar worked as a Teaching Assistant from 2006 to 2008, and as a lecturer from 2008 to 2011 at Florida International University. He was a visiting scholar at Deakin University of Australia in 2008 and in the University of California San Diego in 2010. Between 2011 and 2016, Dr. Avsar worked as Assistant & Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Antalya International University where he also served as the Department Chair. He held a Visiting Professor position at Montana State University for the 2016-2017 academic year. He joined Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as Associate Professor of Economics in 2017 and was promoted to full Professor in 2021. Dr. Avsar was also the recipient of the "Professor of Year" Award from the College of Business in 2019 and 2022.
Dr.Avsar's papers have appeared in well-known international journals such as World Bank Economic Review, Southern Economic Journal, Economics & Politics, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, Economic Modelling, Applied Economics, Applied Economics Letters, and Kyklos. He also serves as a referee in several Economics journals. He has presented his work at several conferences and seminars all over the world. In 2010, he was the recipient of the “Best Paper Award" at the 9th Globalization and Economic Policy Conference, held at the University of Nottingham.
His main research focuses on International Trade, Political Economy and Applied Econometrics.
